Professional Biography
I started HigherLeading 10 years ago as a project during my doctoral studies in strategic leadership. The framework of HigherLeading was developed over decades. My journey in healthcare began during a prolonged hospital stay in my youth when the compassionate care of Respiratory Therapists sparked my passion for the field. While working as a Respiratory Therapist, I studied to become a Registered Nurse specializing in Neonatal Intensive Care.
Beyond honing clinical expertise, my path to leadership was guided by insightful mentors. I cultivated essential skills such as active listening, empathy, trust-building, conflict resolution, change management, and a commitment to excellence. Over the past 30 years, my dedication to continuous learning propelled me to actively seek information, welcome feedback, and refine my leadership acumen.
In leadership positions, I’ve been fortunate to receive guidance from esteemed mentors, shaping a successful path. Embracing the opportunity to reciprocate, I’ve coached and mentored individuals, whether as direct reports, upon request, or by exemplifying servant leadership principles in action.
While refining my leadership acumen and pursuing graduate and doctoral-level education, I served in executive roles gaining expertise in hospital, ambulatory care, and physician practice management. Whether working independently or in a team-based approach, I developed skills to evaluate healthcare operations, lead strategic planning, and engage individuals at all levels, to ensure the delivery of efficient, effective, and high-quality care.
Drawing from my experiences as a leader, mentee, and mentor, coupled with a lifelong commitment to learning, I’ve developed systematic approaches and tools to assist individuals and teams. These resources empower individuals across all levels to enhance efficiency and effectiveness, achieving success while enjoying the gratifying role of influencing and leading others in the pursuit of providing value-based care.
